AN APPRECIATION

The successful completion of this work is due largely to the cooperation of the many splendid men and women in this region who, having the interest of the community at heart, wished to see a work worthy of the people it represents. To single out any one of these persons who extended such fine cooperation would be to possibly disparage a number of others. It would be manifestly impossible to carry such a work to a satisfactory conclusion without the aid and advice of those who have been concerned with the historical episodes of the territory embraced. Our heartfelt thanks and appreciation goes out to these. A debt of gratitude is due the able editors of this work, not only by the publishers but by the citizens of this community and by succeeding generations. The reference committee who served in obedience to a desire to see something published that would be representative as an authoritative source of information also has our sincere and abiding gratitude. Many of the persons on this reference committee are familiar with distinctive topics and phases of history that made their service invaluable. To the newspapers of this region who unstintingly devoted the space of their columns to the progress of this work, and to the many, many who in their support and patronage of this work have made it a reality, we acknowledge a grateful indebtedness.
