Peter Young
OBITUARY.
YOUNG. -- At the residence of Russell Cohoon, Esq., in Washington Township, at 4 A. M. last Sunday, April 18th, Peter Young, of old age, being 82 years old.
He was born in Montgomery county, New York, June 24th, 1793, and removed to Laporte county, Indiana, in 1854, where he has since resided till within a few months during which he has been so enfeebled bodily and mentally as to require constant guardianship of property and person, which requirement Esq. Cohoon, by help of Mrs. C., daughter of decedent, has with patience kindly filled. Mr. Young was an industrious and upright man, who had the good will of all acquaintances. His religious views agreed with those of liberal churches, and he bore his last illness with patient resignation, often expressing his willingness to die. He left two daughter and three sons to mourn their loss. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Carson Parker, Unitarian, at Westville, where he was buried.
Solemnly lay our father to rest
In a lonely quiet spot,
Scatter the damp earth oer his breast
But let him not be forgot,
Though the change of death is on his brow
He must not be forgotten now.
O, we will not forget the dead --
A star shall his memory be
Like that to which Bethlehem led;
T'will lead us, O, Savior! to thee.
His deeds of love are engraven on high,
His memory lives; it can never die.
