Gertrude Weitzel

DEATHS
DIED. -- On Friday, June 17, at the home of her parents, in Liberty township, Miss Gertrude, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Weitzel, of consumption, aged 23 years. The funeral was held Monday, services being conducted in the Chesterton Catholic church by Rev. Father Kroll, and the remains interred in the Catholic cemetery.

It was with a feeling of sorrow that The Tribune chronicles this death, for the victim was a lovely, loveable girl, frank, and open-hearted, and those who knew her best miss her most. About a year ago that dread destroyer, consumption, entwined itself about her fair young lfe and slowly but surely its ravages began to show themselves. The fond parents exhausted all means to save her but medical skill was powerless and she gradually sank lower and lower, until Death claimed her for his own. Through her life Gertrude Weitzel's path was marked with kind deeds and she lived a truly christian life. During the last months of her illness she frequently partook of the sacraments of the church, and as she grew weak in body she grew strong in spirit. Her death is a grievious blow to father, mother, brothers and sisters, but much of the sting is taken away in the knowledge that she has exchanged a life of suffering for an eternity of bliss.
