Henry A. Upthegrove

ACROSTIC.
BY MRS. EMILY SKINNER.

H appy that soul, who, when summoned away,
E xults, in the glance of a coming day,
N or feareth the rush of Jordan's cold wave;
R ising waters may chill, and may threaten a grave
Y et amid all the darkness a light-house appears,

A nd a promise of safety the voyager cheers.

U pheld as though lifted on out-spreading wings,
P rotection he known and praises he sings;
T riumphant, he enters the haven of rest --
H allelujahs rise high, in the home of the blest,
E xpansive and glorious. The entrance once gained,
G ives glimpse of God's glory, unveiled and attained,
R edemption from pain, and safe refuge from ill --
O ne anthem of gladness, is echoing still,
V oices, blending in harmony welcome him there,
E ntitled by promise the glories to share.
