REPORT OF CORONER'S INQUEST.
Be it remembered, That on the 24th day of October, 1884, information was given me that the dead body of a man lay in Westchester township, Porter county, Ind., supposed to have come to his death by accident or casualty, and to ascertain as far as possible the cause or circumstances of said death an examination was made by the Coroner, with the following result: The body was washed up by the waves on the beach of Lake Michigan about one-half mile east of Old City West Pier. The body had evidently been in the water for several weeks, as decomposition had set in. The body was that of a man about 45 or 50 years old, light complexion, 5 feet 11 inches high, weighing about 170 or 180 pounds; a set of false teeth in the upper jaws; dressed in warm cassimere suit, with trousers and heavy chinchilla overcoat, alligator skin knee-boots. Found on person, Elgin gold watch, which had stopped at half-past seven, and a buckskin purse containing eleven cents. Verdict -- death by drowning.
A. P. LETHERMAN, Coroner.
