TERRIBLE CATASTROPHE.
A Mother and her two Children perish from exposure.
Their Remains found frozen stiff under the bridge crossing Coffee Creek by Tom Grady.

Last Tuesday morning Tom Grady came to Chesterton with the sad news that three corpses were lying near the bridge at the old mill north of town. He discovered them as he was coming from his home to Chesterton. Although the morning was bitter cold, a party was at once organized and sent to take care of the bodies. The particulars as near as we have able to learn, are: The mother and her two children, being turned out of doors in the terrible storm of Monday, wandered aimlessly about, and at last coming to the bridge, sought shelter under it. Soon they became stiff with cold, and the wind blew them into the creek, which was solidly frozen. The combined effects of the cold and the fall stunned them, and death must have soon after relieved them of their sufferings. The bodies were identified as being the cat and kittens who formerly lived with "Whiskey Mary." The Coroner was sent for but he was unable to come on account of press of business in other localities.

[Note: "Whiskey Mary" referred to in this death notice was Mrs. Mary Brown.]
