Abby Maria Shedd

DIED -- At Deep River, Lake co., Ind., on Sabbath morning, March 2, 1856, Mrs. ABBY MARIA, wife of William H. Shedd, merchant of that place, and eldest daughter of John and Hannah Wood, formerly of Danvers, Mass., -- in the 26th year of her age. Her disease was complicated, attended with a severe affection of the liver.

The first serious impressions of Mrs. Shedd, so far as known, were received about 7 years since while attending school and boarding in the family of her pastor. There she cherished hope in Christ, and, soon after, united herself with the people of God in the Presbyterian Church of Crown Point. Naturally amicable and lovely, she became a Christian, humble devoted and prayerful. Her religious walk was consistent and uniform. During her protracted illness she was remarkably patient; and when the messenger arrived she was prepared to "enter into the joy of the Lord."

"The righteous have hope in his death."
