Hannah Sergeant
OBITUARY.
Hannah Seymour, wife of William C. Sargeant, was born in Wayne County, New York, Nov. 9, 1832; and died at her residence in Valparaiso, Jan. 28, 1877. She was married to her now bereaved husband May 20, 1856, and they moved to Valparaiso in November of the same year. She leaves her husband and four children to mourn their loss, one of her children having passed on before.
Mrs. Sergeant was eminently a christian woman, consecrating her heart to Christ in childhood, and from her girlhood she has been an active useful member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. She was a teacher in the Sabbath school, and ceased her work only when about a month ago her failing health compelled her to do so. As a proof of her christian influence, those of her children that are old enough to make the choice, have become members of the church of their mother. In her last critical illness she rested sweetly in Christ, and gave clear and positive assurance that her hope of future joy was undimmed.

H ow calm she lay, as though she only slept
A nd wakened not, though loved ones round her wept!
N ot like our mother, when she heard our cry!
N o voice? No Sound ! Oh Father, tell us why?
A ll that is left is but familiar clay
H er spirit's gone, to dwell in rest away.
S hall we not see her? Yes! She whispers, "come,"
E ven now she speaks -- "seek ye the better home --
R eunion on a better, brighter shore,
G ive this a thought: There, ye shall weep no more,
E ach tear, each sorrow, is forever fled
A nd life renewed, is given the precious dead."
N ow listen! While her whispered word is spoken --
T here may we dwell, -- a family unbroken.
