PNEUMONIA, THE RESULT OF FIRE CAUSES DEATH
Mrs. J. J. Gilliland Passes to the Beyond at the Forney Home on College Hill Last Night.
WAS HIGHLY ESTEEMED
As the result of a fire that partially destroyed her home last week and drove herself and family out during the bitter cold weather, Mrs. J. J. Gilliland, well known and highly esteemed by many peple in this city and around Hebron, lies dead in the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Forney, on College Hill. Death was due to pneumonia contracted from the exposure and the excitement of the fire. At the time of the misfortune Mrs. Gilliland was suffering from an attack of the grip. She sustained some burns that may have contributed to some degree toward the fatal disease that developed.
Mrs. Gilliland died last night at 10:45. Several hours previous to that, hope for her recovery was abandoned by the doctors, and her children and friends knew what to expect. The damaged home will be fitted up as well as possible, that the funeral may be held there according to the wishes of her children.
Mrs. Gilliland had resided in this city many years and had won many close friends. Her husband, who once conducted a business on Main street, died some years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Gilliland were married in Hebron, and in that community Mrs. Gilliland passed her girlhood. Missouri was the state of her nativity. Her maiden name was Robinson, and she has many distant relatives by this name residing in and around Hebron. The Masseys there are also related to the deceased. An only sister resides in Laurel, Wis. Mrs. L. M. Blackmore, of College Hill, is her sister-in-law, and the surviving children of Mrs. Gilliland, all residing here, are Lulu, Henrietta, Albert, Corden and Charles. Mrs. Gilliland was a member of the Royal Neighbors, and that order will be present in a body at the funeral. The death comes as a shock, and the children have the sympathy of the entire city. Mrs. Gilliland was 54 years old.
Until some word can be received from the sister in Laurel, no definite time for the funeral will be announced. However, Friday is the prospective date.
