Charles Rhoda

Local Items.
Died -- On Sunday, March 16, 1890, Mr. Charles Rhoda, at his home two miles east of Chesterton. Deceased had been ailing since last July, being the victim of a tumor, which ultimately caused his death. For the past three weeks he had been confined to his bed. At the time of his death Mr. Rhoda was 59 years old, and had been a resident of this township for over thirty years, moving here from Valparaiso. He was an industrious, well-to-do, and highly-respected citizen, whose friends are scattered throughout the county. His funeral was held on Tuesday, March 18th, services being conducted in the German Lutheran church of Chesterton, by Rev. Miller, of Valparaiso, and was very largely attended. Mr. Rhoda was twice married, and leaves three grown-up children, two sons and a daughter. One strange coincidence may be noted in this case. Mr. Rhoda had often expressed the belief that he would die on the 16th of March, and desired to do so. His first wife died on that date, and it so happened that his wish was granted to the very letter, for he died on the same day of the month, and at the same hour of the day that she did.
