John Reirdorf

REPORT OF CORONER'S INQUEST. -- Held in Union township, Porter county, Ind., Oct. 14, 1884. Be it remembered that on the 14th day of October, 1884, information was given to me that the dead body of a man lay in Union township, Porter county, Indiana, supposed to have come to his death by accident or casualty; and to ascertain so far as possible the cause and circumstances of said death, witnesses were called and examined, their material evidence reduced to writing, signed by myself and given to the clerk of Porter county. Whereupon, I find decedent's name was John Reirdorf, about 45 years of age; light complexion; 5 ft. 7 in high, weighing about 140 lbs; and that he came to his death by reason of injuries received from the cars of freight train No. 33 of the N. Y. C. & St. L. R. R. Co., while said train was switching some cars near Wheeler Station, in said county, a part of the train passing over his body crushing the left arm and shoulder, the left thigh and leg and otherwise injuring the body, causing instant death. The verdict -- Accidental death.
A. P. LETHERMAN, Coroner.
