John Moroney

THE DOINGS OF DEATH.
Last Tuesday the remains of John Moroney, or Irondale, a former resident of this place were brought here for interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery. The deceased was called forth from the stage of life after an illness of four or five days. A cold taken some time ago developed into the all-prevailing "Grip" and consumated its work, when pneumonia gave cause of serious alarm. Father O'Sullivan, the parish-priest was called and administered all the last rites of the Catholic Church, and the man who had endured many of the pioneer hardships of Porter county, passed away quietly, aged 70 years. On Tuesday morning the sacrifice of mass was offered for the welfare of his soul by Rev. Tim O'Sullivan at Irondale and the life of the deceased, with its moral lessons impressed upon the throng of sorrowing friends. Thence the funeral cortege proceeded to the Lake Shore depot at South Chicago, where an extra coach received the sorrowing friends and brought them to Chesterton. At Chesterton the remains were conveyed to St. Patrick's church, where Father Kroll pronounced the last solemn benediction, and Father O'Sullivan, an old friend of the family, again spoke to the many old friends, the deceased had at this place, who in great numbers had assembled to pay their last respects to their former neighbor and citizen. Mr. John Moroney came to Porter county about forty years ago and for many a year braved the hardships of pioneer life, when his declining years sought easier employment in the more congenial atmosphere of city life. He was of a friendly, good-natured disposition, with a cheerful word for every one and thus made many friends where-ever he went. THE TRIBUNE expresses its heartfelt sympathy for the family and the many sorrowing friends, hope the Eternal Father may give soothing balm for the deep wounds of the heart in the consoling thought that he died the death of a true christian resigned to the will of God.
