James Meadows

OBITUARY.
Died, James Meadows, son of Thomas and Mary Meadows, on October 18th, 1885, aged 22 years.

Now you are dead our darling
And mid the sweet flowers laid
Down in the peaceful grave
Beneath the willow's shade.
Our feet will oft-times wander
Toward that sacred mound,
Where sleeps the form we cherished
In consecrated ground.
Then o'er thy peaceful pillow
The bitter tears will fall,
And the thoughts of our lost treasure
The idol of us all.
Our soul will linger near you
And guard your precious clay
Through the long years our darling
Till we are called away.
And then in dreamless slumber
Beside your form we will rest,
So blest in being nearest the one we love the best.
The fair clear sky above us will beam with sunshine bright
When we have found our treasure beneath the lilies white.
Oh! bloom of warm bright summer, sweet flowers of every hue,
Ope wide thy fragrant petals to refreshing dew.
Where our lost love is sleeping let precious incense rise,
To one who is an angel in worlds beyond the skies.
Till in the bright hereafter we soon may claim our own;
Now you are dead our darling, we must live alone
But years may come and go, and yet
We cannot learn the word forget.
Within our breast thine image pressed
Hath undisturbed our sacred rest.
For, oh dear James there cannot be
A day for our forgetting thee.
We fancy we here the firm tread we loved well,
The step of a dear brother now gone to his rest above
The step too of him who was good and kind,
The best of good sons who ruled us in love.

A FRIEND AND SCHOOLMATE.
