Mead

In Memory of Mrs. Mead.
Darling mother thou art gone,
For the last, last time we kiss thee.
And as the years roll swiftly on
How sadly we shall miss thee.

Missed the gentle voice forever hushed,
The loving smile we see no more.
Oh, mother dear our hearts are crushed,
But for the hope of meeting on the other shore.

Oh precious faith which thou hast taught us,
Oh precious words which thou hast spoken,
Even in this dark hour have brought us
Comfort in the hope of meeting there a band unbroken.

Yet tears of burning anguish dim our sight,
To think how soon the coffin lid
Will shut forever from the light
The form of our beloved dead.

Oh, 'tis hard to lay thee here,
Beneath this frozen snow bound earth;
Our mother whom we ever held so dear,
But never as to-day, did we relalize thy worth.

Yet 'tis but the cold and lifeless clay
That here is laid to rest.
Thy angel spirit dwells in Heaven's bright day,
In Jesus sight among the blest.

There dear mother, thy children hope to meet thee,
And our dear father, when he is called to come,
Is ready too, and longing now to greet thee,
In that unchanging happy home.

A FRIEND.
