Emma Martin

To The Memory of Emma Martin.

'Tis hard to break the tender cord,
When friendship has abound the heart,
'Tis hard so hard to speak the words,
We must forever part.

Dearest friend, we have laid thee,
In a peaceful grave's embrace,
But thy memory will be cherished;
'Till we see they heavenly face.

Dearest Emma thou hast left us,
And thy loss we deeply feel,
But 'tis God who hath bereft us,
And all our wounds will heal.

Apart from all that vexed her here,
The world's discordant notes and strife,
The soul's deep anguish, grief and fear,
She dwells with Him who gave her life.

Why should we mourn, her work was over,
She taught of you heavenly land,
Then softly left this alien shore,
To tread once more her native strand.

We folded back her gentle hands,
And placed a rose upon her breast,
As sorrowfully, we gave her up,
To the One who has given her rest.

A Friend.
