Amos H. Luther

Death of Amos H. Luther.
We mentioned last week that on Tuesday evening a dispatch called C. R. Luther to the beside of his brother A. H. Luther in Chicago, who was very sick, and that on further information next day his sister Mrs. Talcott followed. Thursday morning came a card of night before that he seemed slowly dying, and tho' written of his death that night we got no word about it here till Thursday evening mail-train came and on it Mr. C. R. Luther, Mrs. Talcott and their sister Mrs. Allman, of Crown Point, who brought their brother Amos with them here for burial at the Luther cemetery by his father, mother and some other relatives. From the depot here he was immediately taken to Judge Talcott's house on Thursday evening, and on Friday afternoon was taken to the Luther school-house, in Washington township, were his funeral was conducted by Elder Riley. The families of relatives already mentioned were the only ones in reach of timely notice of this death or present at the funeral.

Amos H. Luther was born at Chazy, New York, June 22, 1822, came here with his father's family in 1835, and lived here till about the year 1849. He then went west to California and Oregon, and some years later came back to this state and graduated at an Indianapolis law-school. He then went to Des Moines, where he resided several years, and then came to Chicago where he practiced as a real-estate agent till his death the 31st ult., of pneumonia, in the 60th year of his age. The deceased was a bachelor, a liberal sort of Christian in his faith, a great economist but honest business man, and an affectionate and estimable friend and brother. He has left 4 brothers and 3 sisters to bemoan their loss.
