Lydia Koontz

A MYSTERIOUS DEATH.

The Unconscious Form of a Young Woman found in our City with a Dead Infant by Her Side. -- Death of the Unfortunate Victim Monday Morning.

Tuesday, 12th, Lydia Koontz, accompanied by a woman whose identity has not yet been found out, went to the Ingler boarding house and engaged a room for a week, paying the rent in advance. The room selected is on the lower floor with windows opening on the streets at the south and west. The main hall is located in front of the room and to reach any part of the house it is necessary to pass the room, yet, strange to say, the many people in that house scarcely heard the agonizing screams and moans that issued from that room. After having paid the rent the lady and her comapnion went immediately to the room, the strange woman stayed about an hour when she left and has not been seen since. After her companion's departure the Koontz woman went ot work fastening the windows and tacking down the curtains. That is the last known of her until Saturday forenoon, when the Ingler family, who had packed up the greater part of their furniture preparatory to removal, went to the room and finding it locked forced an entrance into the room where the woman was found lying upon the floor unconscious. By her side lay a dead child. The coroner was immediately sent for and on his arrival everything possible was done for the sufferer. By an examination of a trunk in the room the woman's identity was discovered. On Sunday her sister, at Pierceton, was telegraphed for. The latter's husband came on as soon as possible. The unfortunate died Monday morning, and was buried on Tuesday.
