EDITOR VIDETTE. -- Matthew Kevin, the man shot last Sunday evening is now a corpse. Those who Monday morning expressed themselves so inconsiderately jubiland about the shooting might upon the same ground now be still more jubilant about its fatal termination. However, now let them divest themselves of prejudice in the case and they may see the matter in a different light. Let them now go to that house of sorrow, where beside the dead man stands his weeping wife with three small children, gazing in a half dazed manner on the livid face before them. She is left to battle with the selfish world as best she can alone for the support of that dear family. Humanity should prompt us now to sympathize with those so suddenly distressed and lend a helping hand for their relief, and show that any rash expressions made by any of us were not vicious but results of some misinformation. Furthermore, whatever provocation, or necessity in self-defense, may have existed for this shooting ought not to be taken on more hear-say as sufficient, but established in a legal way. -- Vidette.
