Mrs. S. D. Johnson

NEWS OF THE WEEK.
S. D. Johnson, a prominent farmer of Pleasant township, formerly passenger conductor on the Michigan Central, lost his wife and young lady daughter last week, with diptheria. The disease was of the most malignant type, and both patients seemed to be doomed from the start. The membrane commenced forming in the throat, and before death, extended clear to the lungs. It is somewhat of a mystery how the disease was contracted in this case, as there were no others in the neighborhood and every thing about the premises were up to the sanitary standard. Diptheria in the great majority of cases is caused by an impure supply of drinking water, but in this case the water was obtained through a driven well and was of the best quality.
