Ada A. Hoskins

OBITUARY.
ADA A. HOSKINS, OF VALPARAISO, IND.

Ada A. Hoskins, daughter of Mrs. Elmira Hoskins, died at Valparaiso, June 17, 1882, of croup, aged two years and three months.

I sat in the lonesome twilight,
With my empty arms on my breast,
And my heart was stony with sorrow,
Yet mod with a wild unrest.
I knelt by the empty cradle
And thought of the new-made grave,
Crying, "God, you were cruel, cruel,
To take back the child you gave!"

A voice that was sweet with pity,
Said, "Peace, be still, poor heart!"
And I saw, in swift, bright vision,
Heaven's gates swing wide apart.
And for all my grief and sorrow
That one sweet glimpse sufficed,
For I saw my black-eyed babe
Asleep in the arms of Christ.
