Henry Hilton

A Terrible Explosion.
About 10 o'clock last Thursday morning the town of Westville was the scene of great excitement, caused by the explosion of the large boiler in the planing mill of O. A. Hatton. After the dense mass of smoke and steam had cleared away it was discovered that O. A. Hatton, the proprietor, and Henry Hilton, the Engineer, were both killed. No one else was injured, though there were a dozen men in and about the building at the time. J. F. Carter, of this place, who was at the mill at time of the accident, says the boiler was lifted from its foundation and carried a block, tearing through a blacksmith shop. Men were lifted and carried quite a distance by the explosion, but with the exception of those mentioned above, no one received any serious injury. The building, which belonged to Crumpacker, Winters & Co., was completed wrecked. Mr. Hatton had been running the mill but two weeks and was engaged in the manufacture of broom handles. The two men killed were heads of families and ranked high in the esteem and confidence of the people of Westville.
