Henry Highland

The Late Henry Highland.
Henry Highland died at his home in Wheeler on the morning of Mrch 18 from heart disease. He was born near Fredericksburg, Md., on June 1, 1822, and lived to the advanced age of 74 years, 9 months and 18 days. At the age of six years he accompanies his parents to Ohio, and settled in what was afterward Carroll county, from which place he moved to Porter county, Indiana, in 1841, and has been a continuous resident of the county ever since. In July, 1846, he was united in marriage with Sarah J. Jones, who has ever proven a faithful companion. The them were born five daughters, one of whom died in infancy, Mrs. J. C. Beck and Mrs. Wm. Felker, of Chesterton, Mrs. J. Stemper, of Crocker, and Mrs. C. A. Arnold, of Wheeler. There are eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. During his declining health he frequently expressed a desire to depart this live, assuring his friends that all was well.

The funeral services were conducted on Sunday morning at 11 a. m. from the M. E. church by C. H. Leeson. A very appropriate sermon was delivered from the text Isa. 33:17. Rev. A. M. Virden, of Monon, a former pastor, attended the funeral and spoke very touchingly concerning his intimate friendship with the family. The interment was at the Jones cemetery.

Mr. Highland by his straight forward and honorable dealing won the respect of all who knew him. He was a loyal citizen, a devoted father, a loving friend. The many friends join in their sympathy to the family in the bereavement.
