Edmund B. Hays

OBITUARY.
Edmund B. Hays.

Mr. Edmund B. Hays was born in Vermont, January 7th, 1797. Removed with his parents to New York, and from thence to Erie county, Pennsylvania. It was in the year 1847 that he became a citizen of this county; and he has made it the place of his residence ever since. It was of old age that he died; his decease taking place on August 17th, 1880. He was therefore, at his death, eighty-three years, seven months and twenty-three days old. Having had so long a residence in the county, he was well known. He had been in feeble health for some time, but gently descended into the tomb without the usual afflictions of disease. His physical system gave out, and hence he was called away. The funeral services were conducted by J. H. Edwards at the Christian Chapel in this city on the day following the decease. "If I wait, the grave is mine house; I have made my bed in the darkness." Job xvii, 13. Only three months before, lacking but a day, the companion of his life was called to go; and now the two who have so long journeyed together on the earth are again together in the abodes of the dead. Youth and age alike must answer the summons of the destroyer.
