Mrs. John Edleman

FROM THE COUNTY CAPITAL.
VALPARAISO, Ind., May 27 -- Sunday morning last Mrs. Edleman, wife of John Edleman, a baker in the employee of J. S. Louderback, committed suicide by drowning herself in Sagers pond, a body of water a mile south of town. She got up early that morning, did her house work, dressed her three children and sent them to Sunday school at the Baptist church. She then dressed herself and walked out to the pond. Arriving at the waste way near the mill, about 9:30 a. m. she divested herself of her shoes, stockings, hat, gloves and underskirt, and deliberately plunged into the water. Some students who were fishing on the opposite bank saw her, and at once rushed to the rescue, but arrived too late to do more than fish out the dead body, which they did by means of a fish pole and line. During this time, the husband, who had been away from the house when his wife left, returned, and began a search for her. While he was hunting around town for her, the news came of the finding of a woman in Sager's pond. He at once went there and recognized the body as that of his wife. Mrs. Edleman has for many years been a great sufferer from a tumor, and has submitted to no less than four surgical operations. Lately she has shown signs of insanity, and preparations had been made to have her taken to an asylum. She was 37 years of age, and highly respected. Her funeral was held from the Baptist church Tuesday, Rev. J. B. Banker officiating.
