John Dunn

Railroad Accident.

Quite an accident occurred on last Friday evening near Alida on the B. & O. R. R., the particulars of which, as near as we can learn, are, an employe on the gravel train by the name of John Dunn was struck on the head by a fence-board, knocked off from the train and killed. It seems that after unloading the cars, which are dumpers, some of the employes took a fence board to clear the dirt from the platform. This being done the board was laid crosswise, leaving about three feet of it projecting over the side of the car. Mr. Dunn sat on the same side close to the rear of the platform. The engine being put in motion and passing over a switch the end of the board came in contact with the target, swong around and striking Mr. Dunn on the back of the head dislodged him from his seat. He fell on the back of his head in close proximity to the wheels. He head was badly crushed, causing death almost instantly, but it remains an uncertainty whether the wound received on the head was caused by the board, or the fall, or whether it was done by one of the wheels. The deceased has several friends living here. The body was brought here Friday night, and after the usual burial rites, which were held in St. Paul's church, the remains were conveyed to their earthly tomb in the Catholic Cemetery. He was 60 years old, and resided here at intervals for many years.
