Willie Doddridge
HEBRON, Ind., Jan. 4, 1896. A very sad accident occurred on New Year's morning in which a young man who formerly resided here lost his life. Willie Doddridge, in company with another young man from Claypool, had been attending a watch meeting at Mentone and were on their way home, when they became sleepy and allowed their horse to walk onto the track in front of an approaching passenger train. The engineer blew the whistle and tried to stop the train, but all his efforts were in vain. The engine struck the cutter, tearing it into splinters, and the young men were picked up in a dying condition. Willie lived only a few moments. The other young man was alive when last heard from. The remains were brought to the home of Wm. Fisher, on Thursday and the funeral services were held in the M. E. church, Friday, conducted by Rev. J. N. Buchanan, assisted by Revs. McKedzie and Wilson. The deceased was 23 years, 4 months and 8 days old. He had no bad habits and was loved and respected by all who knew him.
