Mrs. Mary Freeman, who died at her residence on Franklin Street Friday morning, March 19th, and whose funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church on last sabbath afternoon, was the daughter of David and Susan Cheney. She was born in Washington Co., Maryland, Oct. 6th, 1817. She came to this county with her parents in the spring of 1838, was baptized into the fellowship of the Baptist church in 1842. In January, 1845, she was married to Truman Freeman, by whom she had six children, five of whom, four sons and one daughter, are now living. She was one of a family of nine children, all but one of whom, Mrs. Orton, wife of Judge Orton, of Madison, Wisconsin, are dead. As a neighbor and friend she was highly esteemed by all who knew her. As a mother she was greatly beloved by all her children, and they deeply mourn her loss. As a Christian she had the confidence of all her children and they feel that their loss is her gain. She died with full confidence in Christ as her savior. Her funeral sermon was preached from 2d Cor. V. 1, by Elder E. S. Riley, pastor of the Baptist church, assisted by Elder R. Beer, of the Presbyterian church and Elder Brakeman, of the Methodist church.
