Isham Campbell

NEWS OF THE WEEK.
Isham Campbell, who died in Laporte Aug. 7th, and whose remains were brought to this place for interment on the 9th, was one of the pioneer settlers of northwestern Indiana. At the time of his arrival the counties of Laporte, Porter and Lake were embraced in one territory and he settled in what is now Laporte county. He afterward settled on Whipporwill prairie, near where the station of Babcock is located. He was in the county early enough to take a hand in some of the Indian skirmishes which were quite frequent from the years 1830 to 1836. He was here in time to assist Jesse Morgan to erect the first house, which was in 1835. He was 78 years of age.
