William Cain

LINE IN MEMORY OF WM. CAIN,
Who died at his home on Morgan Prairie, July 8, 1883, after a brief but severe attack of congestion of the stomach and bowels.

Gone, a father and a husband;
Gone, a kind loving brother,
Left, a broken family and many friends,
An aged father and devoted mother.

Gone to the grave in manhood's years,
Released from the world's fierce fight.
Thou in the grave thou art not forgotten,
Remembered for thy deeds of right.

His path was rough in the Christian life,
A quarter of a century through;
Though in weakness he may have erred, he did
What he thought was his duty to do.

Frail mortals may shrink at the thought
Of the silence and darkness of the tomb;
But Jesus has passed the portals of death
And the light of His Word dispels all the gloom.

Though fraility is man's common lot,
And in weakness we all abide;
Yet the wide arms of mercy enfold us
And sinners may hope since Jesus has died.

Though dead, 'twere wrong to deplore thee,
"When God was thy ransom, guardian and guide;
He gave thee and took thee and doth restore thee
Where death has no sting since the Savior has died."

Then, weeping friends, come weep no more
'Tis the will of the Lord that's done;
By and by we'll meet on the other shore,
When we the victory have won.
