Lyman Blair

THE LATE LYMAN BLAIR.
A Letter Showing the Circumstances Under Which he Met his Death to Have Been Accidental.

The following letter from one of Mr. Blair's comrades in the Tolleston Club, concerning the fatal accident which befell him last Tuesday, was published in yesterday's Chicago Journal, and will be read with interest by the many friends of the family who live in this city.

To the editor of the Chicago Journal:
"To a sportsman, the accident which caused the death of Mr. Lyman Blair is easily accounted for. Mr. Blair had made arrangements with Mr. Raymond to go to Tolleston last evening, and took his gun to unload it before placing it in the case. Now the "action" of Mr. Blair's gun is a very awkward and clumsy one and has been time and again unfavorably commented upon by his fellow sportsmen. The 'action' most probably 'stuck' and, as he was compelled to open the gun across his knee, it probably suddenly unhinged with a jerk and, in passing the cartridge, the plunger stuck and exploded the shell. When it is remembered that the gun was found by his side open, it precludes any possible idea that it was a case of suicide.

A MEMBER OF THE TOLLESTON CLUB.
