John M. Bedelle

Died, in Jackson Township, April 11th John M. Bedelle, aged 54 years, 11 months, and 5 days. John M. Bedelle was born in Cayuga Co., N. Y. His early life was spent in this State. When a young man he imigrated to Illinois, and shortly after removed to LaPorte County, Ind. After living a few years there, he removed to Porter County, where he spent the remainder of his life. On Sept. 9th, 1858, he was married to Lucy A. Hall, daughter of the late Loring Hall, with whom he lived until she was called away May 26th, 1888. At the time Mr. Bedelle settled in Jackson Township nearly all this country was one immense forest. He, with his father-in-law engaged in the lumber business, and owned and operated a saw mill which is now in ruins from the wreck of time. He left a family of four daughters and one son, but death has entered portals of the family and taken one of the daughters, Lettie, who died the 15th. His funeral was largely attended and was in charge of Calumet Lodge, F. and A. Masons, of which he was a worthy member. The sermon was by Rev. Hall and held at the M. E. Church.
