Charles Beach

A YOUNG MAN DROWNED.
While in Bathing in Sight of Many of His Friends.

Charles Beach, a son of Edward Beach, Trustee of Jackson township, this county, lost his life Sunday morning in Lake Michigan, at a point three miles north of Chesterton. Young Beach with a number of farmers and their families went to the Lake Saturday evening to camp out. Sunday morning about 9 o'clock, and just after eating a hearty meal, Beach went in swimming. The Lake was quite rough and the waves being four and five footers. When out between the first and second sand bars, and hardly to his waist in water, Beach took cramps, and before anyone realized the trouble he was drowned. The Lake was so rough that the work of recovering the body could not begin until 2 o'clock in the afternoon, and the fishermen dragged the Lake until 6:30 before the body was recovered. When taken out, it was all doubled up, and the limbs distorted by the cramp pains. The body was taken to Undertaker Lundberg's and dressed, and then sent home to sorrowing parents. Deceased was an estimable young man 22 years old and unmarried. He was to be married soon to a young lady living near Babcock. The funeral was held Tuesday.
