Irena Baum

In Memoriam.
Miss Irena Baum fell asleep after a long and painful illness, May -- 1883. Irena was afflicted for some time, but bore her sufferings with Christian fortitude, and was anxious to be released and at rest. For --- years she has been a worthy member of the Christian Church, striving to make her life all that a Christian life should be. In knowing how to live, she was well prepared to die, and could say, "I'm not afraid of death." Her life was beautiful, and in the social circle, her quiet ways and devotion to the right can never be forgotten. We "mourn with those who mourn, and weep with those who weep," but faith bids us to look unto Him who dowth all things well, and relying upon his promises, we know that "There's a land that is fairer than day." In that land friends shall be re-united, hands shall be clasped in joy unspeakable, old sorrows shall be forgotten, and we shall go no more out" forever. Crosses here, but Crowns there, for "To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with Me in My throne." We watch, and wait, and pray, that when the summons comes to us we, too, may be ready, and that our rest may be as peaceful as that of our dear sister.

"We shall sleep, but not forever;
There will be a glorious dawn.
We shall meet to part -- no, never,
On the resurrection morn."
Mrs. C. W. Patchen, nee Fairchild, Ottawa, Ill.
