Rhoda Banta

Evidences of Expressions of Sympathy.
The session of the M. E. Sabbath-school on Sunday was an interesting one. The room was draped in mourning for Mrs. Banta. At the close of the lesson, and after an appropriate song by the school, the superintendent referred to the fact that for many years Prof. and Mrs. Banta have been faithful and true friends of the Sabbath-school, ever ready to make any sacrifice that would be for its advancement; that in every enterprise for the Sabbath-school, the wife and mother now gone was an efficient and enthusiastic helper, that perhaps no other family could be found so fully identified with the school and so long in the Sabbath-school work. In the infant department the children, in their sympathy for little Alice Banta, expressed their desire to give up the projected enterprise at the Opera House on Christmas eve. This proving also the sentiment of the entire school the announcement was made that out of sympathy for the grief of Prof. Banta and family and love and respect for the memory of Mrs. Banta, the M. E. Sabbath-school will hold no Christmas festival this year. At a meeting of the teachers after the session, teachers J. D. Hollett, T. H. Bell and C. A. Brooke were appointed to draft resolutions of respect and have them read at the next session. Chorister Ora W. Smith was appointed to procure a floral tribute for presentation in behalf of the Sabbath-school, and instructed to go to Chicago for it if necessary. It was, however, ascertained later that the flowers could not be secured in time for the funeral.
