BY M. A. GARIS.

DIED. -- At buchanan, Mich., on Wednesday, the 9th inst., of Consumption, MARY ELVINA BAKER, consort of Jerome Baker, leaving a husband, and an infant two weeks old, to feel and deplore her untimely death. She was an amiable and loving wife, a consistent and affectionate daughter and sister, and an enduring and dearly loved friend, respected by all who knew her.

Her spirit struggled hard and long
To free itself, but fetters strong
Seemed still to press its stay;
Till rising suns inviting scene,
Brightly calm and how serene,
Her sopul now passed away.

And then a smile we soon could trace,
Sweetly resting on her face,
Forbidding us to mourn,
While her soul in bright array,
From every sin and sorrow free,
To happiness is borne.
