Hattie Russell Austin

Death of Mrs. Austin.

The neighborhood was lately shocked by the sudden and unexpected death of Mrs. Hattie Russell Austin, beloved wife of J. D. Austin, who departed March 4th, 1881, to dwell with the immortals, after an illness of two days. The sad event was entirely unexpected even to the members of the family and attendants, until a very few minutes previously. Many of their near neighbors heard nothing of her sickness until accompanied with the announcement of her death. Truly in the midst of life we are in death. Seeing her on the Wednesday before the picture of womanly youth and health; she would have been almost the last one selected by the writer whose spirit would have been required so soon.

Surely, God moves in a mysterious way His wonders to perform. An affectionate wife, a careful, tender, loving mother, and a kind neighbor has left us. May we emulate her many virtues, and may the bereaved husband with his two little motherless children find consolation he now so much needs in that faith that points to a blissful reunion beyond this embryo preparatory state in which we here exist. Her "mansion not made with hands" was first ready, and when he and his little ones are called to go they will know where to find her.

Rest, loved one, rest so gently called away.

"A still small voice" no tempest's prepared thy way,
Sweetly as a downy couch sank thou to rest,
Thy babe untouched by taint of sin clasped to thy breast,
A bright angelic pair they seemed, so quiet their repose,
Oh shed for them no bitter tears they're free from earthly woes."

Mr. Austin conveyed their remains by railroad to the former home of the deceased in Batavia, Illinois.

A FRIEND.
