Clyde Short Killed; Air Pilot Found

Clyde B. Short, fireman, first Class, U. S. Navy, was killed in action in the South Pacific on December 3, 1944, according to word received Thursday by his wife Jeraldine Snyder Short, 457, Greenwich street, Valparaiso.

Fireman Short had been in the service since April, 1942, and had been in the South Pacific since August, 1944. Before joining up he was employed in Gary at the plant of the Carnegie-Illinois Steel Corporation.

He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Short, of Pigeon, West Virginia. A brother, Carney R. Short, is employed at the McGill Manufacturing company, bearing division.

Lieut. William Cushing, of the U. S. Army Air Corps, reported missing in the Philippine theater of war since February 5, is alive and well, according to word received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Cushing, of Crocker. A letter has been received stating he and members of his crew were safe.

A Porter man, Sgt. Frank Cummings, was seriously wounded in Germany on January 28, according to a war department telegram received this week by his mother, Mrs. Howard Cummings, of Porter. Sgt. Cummings was in an infantry division with Gen Patton's 3rd army. His wife is a school teacher in Richmond, Mich.
