Lake Eliza Cemetery, Porter TownshipIndex of Lake Eliza Cemetery burials . . . .
The Lake Eliza Cemetery was located in the northwest quarter of Section 1. The
1876 plat map of Porter Township indicates that the Leonard Brothers owned the
northwest quarter of Section 1 at that time; later owners of the property
included Alvah Leonard (1895), Emma Leonard (1906), and John Fitzgerald (1921).
No plats maps indicate the existence of a cemetery adjacent to Lake Eliza.
The Northwest Indiana Genealogical Society cemetery index for Porter Township
states that:
"The cemetery was at the west side of Lake
Eliza and when
a dance hall was built the ground was
levels and the stones
were either covered or pushed into
the lake."
