OWEN L. CRUMPACKER - Scion of a family noted in the annals of Indiana for service of distinction in many avenues of constructive endeavors, Owen L. Crumpacker was born in Valparaiso, Indiana, on March 20, 1880, the son of Edgar Dean and Charlotte Ann (Lucas) Crumpacker, the former of whom was a native of LaPorte County, Indiana, and the latter of Belvedere, Illinois. To this union were born three sons, of whom Owen is the eldest; the others are Fred C., a practicing attorney of Hammond; and Maurice Edgar, a member of Congress, representing Portland, Oregon. A more extended mention will be found in the sketch of Edgar Dean Crumpacker. Owen L. Crumpacker attended the Valparaiso High School and Valparaiso University; in 1899 he entered the University of Michigan, where he received the degree of A. B. in 1903, and two years later received the degree of L. L. B. He opened offices with his brother, Fred, in Indiana Harbor, and also maintained an office in Hammond with his uncle, Peter. In 1908 he returned to Valparaiso and began practice; he also served as secretary to his father while he was in Congress. Since 1913 he has been associated with an uncle, Grant, and a cousin, John, in the practice of law. The firm enjoys a fine corporation practice, and is generally regarded as one of the leading law firms of this region. Mr. Crumpacker was admitted to the bar of the United States Supreme Court and also the Supreme Court of Indiana; he is a member of the Porter County Bar Association and the Theta Delta Chi fraternity.
