CONOVER, George Walker, purchasing agt.; born Warren Co., O., July 25, 1857; son Joseph and Catharine (Barkalow) Conover; ed. at Northern Ind. Normal School, Valparaiso; married Valparaiso, Apr. 20, 1881, Kate N. Sayles; children: Harry S., G. Raymond. Taught In district schools of Butler Co., O., 1876-80; engaged in retail hardware business at Valparaiso, 1880-5; came to Chicago and became associated with the Chicago Telephone Co. in the contract dept.; later mgr. Home Telegraph Co. of Kan.; returned to Chicago and became purchasing agt. for the Electrical Supply Co., and afterward engaged in independent business as a gen. purchasing and forwarding agt. for telephone, electric ry. and other elec. material. Dir. General Engring. Co. Republican. Congregationalist. Clubs: Birch wood Country, Birchwood Golf. Recreation: reading. Residence: 1527 Chase Av. Office: Merchants' Loan and Trust Building.
