Our dear little Claytie is gone,
Yes gone to the home of the blest,
But how he is singing a morning song,
While his body moulders to dust.
Claytie was a good and pleasant child,
He has missed a world of strife,
We know he is happy in a better world,
In the enjoyment of eternal life.
Parents weep not for your child so dear,
For he has gone to the Christian home,
You can have nothing now to fear,
For he is in heaven while you mourn.
Farewell, dear Claytie, it pains our heart,
When we think of you, your face so sweet,
It causes bitter tears to start;
We hope that we will in heaven meet.
Let us dry our tears and wipe our eyes,
And weep and cry and sigh no more,
For dear little Claytie is far above the skies,
On that bright golden shore.
Goodbye, dear Claytie, for a time,
Till God shall call us too,
And then in joy far more sublime,
Our union will renew.
