IN MEMORY OF EMMA E. WOOD.
Dearest Emma thou hast left us!
Here thy loss we deeply feel;
But 'tis God that has bereft --
He can all our sorrows heal.
Yet again we hope to meet thee,
Where the day of life is fled,
Then in heaven with joy to greet thee,
Where no fare-well tear is shed.
From our circle, dearest sister,
Early hast thou passed away;
But the angels say, another
Joins our holy throngs to-day!
No more that voice, we loved to hear,
Shall fill her parents' list'ning ear!
No more its tones shall join to swell
The songs that of a savior tell!
How often has the bell been tolled?
The funeral cortege moved along?
'Twas for the young as well as old,
The healthy and the strong.
A few short hours will soon be pass'd,
When we shall reach the happy shore,
Where death-divided friends at last
Shall meet to part no more.
