Elijah Wood
KOUTS.
Death, the grim monster, has been at work in Kouts during the past few days. The first one called was old Mr. Sumner, Mrs. Lewis Stoddard's father. He was born in New York in 1805 and conseqently was fast nearing his 87th mile post. His last sickness was brief, and he passed peacefully away on the morning of Jan. 11. His body was taken to Ross, Indiana, for burial. He had lived a good, upright life, and all who knew the kind old man loved and respected him. His wife preceded him to "that happy land" by a few years. He leaves children and grandchildren besides a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his loss.
The second one summoned was Mr. Elijah Wood, also an old man and a respected resident of this section. He died Jan. 14, of lung fever. His body was interred in the cemetery near Valparaiso. He has been sick for some time and it was known several days before his death that he could not recover.
