Eddie Wiseman
A Sad Accident.
A shocking accident happened Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock which resulted in the death of Eddie Wiseman, the eleven year old son of J. P. Wiseman, jr., a well known farmer of Jackson township. Eddie and Ollie, two brothers, accompanied by an older boy, took a gun and went out hunting. They had gone only a few rods from the house when Ollie fired the gun and started to reload it. The gun was a breech-loader, and as the boy attempted to close it, the weapon was discharged, the full charge striking Eddie, who stood only a few feet in front of him. At the sound of the report both boys fell to the ground unconscious, and for five minutes the uninjured boy did not recover his senses. When he did he asked his companions if Eddie was hit. Eddie himself answered, saying: "Yes, you have killed me." These were his last words. The elder boy ran to the house of Frank Wiseman, who lives near by, and Ollie ran for his mother. The wounded boy was taken to his grandpa's, where he died half an hour later.
Coroner Ketchum held an inquest on the remains Monday and rendered a verdict of accidental shooting, and exonerated the boy Ollie.
The funeral was held Wednesday. The boy who did the shooting is frantic with grief, and refuses all food and comfort. The grief stricken family have the heartfelt sympathy of the community.
