Robert Renwick Wilson
MELANCHOLY CASUALTY. -- ROBERT RENWICK, son of James H. and Mary Wilson, of Indian Town in this County, an interesting little boy aged 3 years and 5 months, came to an untimely end on the 1st inst., by falling into a kettle of boiling water. -- He only survived the accident about 16 hours. The following lines were composed by a friend who was present at the funeral, and who has thus embodied the distracted language of the afflicted mother in the form of poetry.
Oh, how can I leave thee, my child,
How can I turn from my sweet one?
My heart grows distracted and wild.
My sweetest -- my treasure is gone;
O, dearest one! -- joy of my heart,
Sweet darling, my beautiful boy,
Oh, how can I see thee depart,
And utterly rob me of joy?
Dear Enwick, my cherub so fair,
Oh, why will thay bear thee away?
Great God must I weeping forbear!
Then give me thy grace for this day.
Thou art gone now, my dearest first born,
With Jesus thy Shepherd to dwell,
And we, while our bleeding hearts mourn,
Must bid thee a weeping FAREWELL.
