Andrew S. Wilson
OBITUARY.
On the 17th of August, of sunstroke, at his residence five miles east of Valparaiso, Andrew S. Wilson, in the 57th year of his age.
The deceased was born in North Carolina Nov. 15, 1824. When but a child he came with his parents to Wayne co., Ind., thence to Rolling Prairie, Laporte co., Ind., where he resided till about 11 years ago, when he removed with his family to Morgan Prairie, Porter co., Ind., where he lived to the day of his death. On September 5, 1837, he was married to Catharine Stoner, by whom he had 8 children, 5 of whom remain, with their mother to mourn his loss.
Mr. Wilson had long been an active member of the Baptist church, and at the time of his death was a deacon in the Valparaiso church and one of the building committee of the new church edifice now being completed. As a business man he was honorable and prompt in all his dealings with his fellow men; as a husband and father he was faithful to his family; as a neighbor he was kind and obliging; as a Christian he was devoted to the cause of Christ. His death is a great loss, not only to his family, but to the community in which he lived and the church of which he was a member. All feel that a good man has fallen. He has gone to his heavenly rest, which for him is far better. He has left to his family the heritage of a good name, which in value is far above gold and material wealth, and has gone home.
"Asleep in Jesus, O, how sweet,
To be for such a slumber meet!"
