Lulu Wibirt
Obituary.
Miss Lulu Wibirt, a popular and well-known young lady of Chesterton, breathed her last on Sunday August 5, after a brief illness which began about four weeks ago. Miss Wibirt was employed in Chicago when she contracted typhoid fever, and lay ill for three weeks, when she insisted on being brought home. She arrived in Chesterton week before last, and rapidly sank until Death ended the struggle.
Deceased was 20 years 10 months and 11 days old at the time of her demise. She was born in Mishawaka and when but a small child her mother died. When six years old she, with her sister, came to Chesterton, and made their home with their uncle, Calvin Shanks, which has been the only home she ever knew. She was given every advantage possible by her uncle and aunt, both of whom were devoutly fond of her. When Mr. Moroney became postmaster he made Lulu deputy, and while in the office she discharged the duties creditably to herself and the office. Just budding into womanhood, it seems sad that so sweet a life should be sniffed out, just as the era of usefulness began. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon in the M. E. church, of which she was a devout member, and the sermon preached by Rev. A. H. DeLong, former pastor here, and a devout friend of the family. His discourse was eloquent and touching, peculiarly fitting, and appropriate for the sad occasion. In the death of Lulu Wibirt the bereaved sister and relatives sustain a severe loss, but who can say that "God Know Not Best?"
