Liddie Whitten

OBITUARY.
MRS. LIDDIE WHITTEN, died in her 70th year of age, on Wednesday, August 13th, at 8 o'clock p. m., 1884.

Deceased was born in Old Haddam, Connecticut, June 1st, 1815, and was the daughter of Enos and Sarah Brainard, and was the next to the youngest of seven children. The youngest and the only one now living is Mrs. Alice D. Brush, now of Chesterton. When only an infant, Liddie's parents moved to Brooklyn, Chuyoga county, at which place she grew to womanhood, and married Loren Whitten, and her first child, Archolas E. Whitten, now of Porter, Ind., was born there. She and her husband moved to Toledo, Ohio, where she lived for seven years. Leaving Toledo, she went with her husband to Vermillion, Ohio, where her youngest child, John S. Whitten was born. In a few years the family moved back to Toledo, and in a short time settled in Detroit, Mich. At this place she buried her husband, and since his death, she has lived with her son Archolas Whitten. John was with his mother until large enough to care for himself, after which he soon joined the Union army. While in Detroit, deceased became a member of the M. E. church, and never united with any other during the remainder of her life. The latter part of her life, she moved with her son to many different places, coming with him to Porter, Ind. She was quite well semmingly until about three weeks ago, when she suffered a stroke of paralysis, while visiting at Nathan Demass' in town, which resulted in her death. The funeral services were held at the M. E. church in Chesterton on Saturday last at 2 o'clock p. m. Rev. Z. Lambert officiating. Her remains were interred in the Chesterton cemetery. She leaves her two sons and youngest sister, with many other relatives and friends to mourn her loss. Mrs. Whitten was beloved by all who knew her, and esteemed bery highly by all of her friends.
