Robert J. Walsh
OBITUARY.
WALSH -- February 25th, 1880, at his residence, 1231 Shurtieff Avenue, Chicago, Ill., Robert J. Walsh, aged 22 years, 5 months.
Requiescat in pace.
Deceased, the son of D. A. Walsh, Esq., was born in Michigan City and came to Valparaiso with his parents when quite a young child. After living for several years in Valparaiso, he removed to Chicago where he resided up till the time of his death. In the autumn of 1878 he was attacked by the illness which, though combatted by some of the best doctors in Chicago, terminated fatally on Wednesday of last week. In August of 1879 he went to California, hoping to improve his health, and returned to his home about four weeks previous to his death, having derived but little benefit from his journey across half the continent.
Mr. Walsh possessed an excellent education, and though but little past the threshold of manhood at the time of his death was very highly spoken of as an architect who thoroughly understood his profession.
During his residence in Valparaiso, he had endeared himself to a large circle of friends, and much sorrow was expressed at the news of his death. On Friday his remains were brought to Valparaiso for burial, his bereaved parents being accompanied from their home in Chicago by a large number of sympathizing friends. An impressive funeral sermon was delivered by Rev. J. M. Hartnett, formerly a schoolmate of the deceased. The funeral procession was also largely attended by his former schoolmates and the body was conveyed to the St. Paul's Cemetery, where by surrounding friends, it was laid in its last repose.
