Hans Urbahns
Mr. Hans Urbahns, farmer in the White Settlement a few miles south of here, and the father of John Urbahns, merchant of this place, died at his residence on Monday of last week in his 72d year of age. He was buried in the cemetery of that neighborhood on Wednesday following, the Rev. Lange, Lutheran minister of this place, conducting the services. The deceased had suffered much the year past with grief for the sickness and death of his wife which occurred Feb. 1876, and had lately also been much troubled on account of pecuniary embarrassment, he being somewhat involved in debt as surety. These troubles on his brain are said to have hastened his death. He sold his farm some weeks ago -- the upland, with good improvements at $40 per ace, and the marsh at $20, which his friends thought very low, and possibly this added to his worrying. His children fortunately were harmonious and settled the estate at once without the intervention of a court, which by the ordinary course would have cost no small share of a good estate.
